Committee to Elect David Lewis Moore for Bishop

Metropolitan AME Zion Church

102 Martin Luther King Blvd

Washington, NC   27889

My name is David Lewis Moore and I am a candidate for Bishop in 2004.

I have dedicated my seventeen-year ministry at Metropolitan AME Zion Church to serving our Church, its members and our community.   I offer my candidacy for Bishop because I believe we must re-dedicate ourselves to our Founders’ vision: “Spiritual, social and economic emancipation must be the hallmarks of our faith.”

With over 3000 churches and an active ministry of 1 million members, we must have clarity and a defined vision for our Church and its members, while being faithful to our Founders.   Support for our schools and colleges remain critical; our Missions and their good works are vital for our future. But what of the economic emancipation talked about by our Founders?

My view of economic emancipation, simply put, is reliance upon the Spirit of God and stepping out on faith. It carried me on a journey in my community twelve years ago where we have been able to change lives and restore hope to our blighted community.   It is through this experience that I propose to expand the Metropolitan experience that has created pathways to diverse funding sources in support of our Founders’ vision.

Our empowerment brings new and affordable housing into our community: housing for families, single mothers with children and seniors unable to live alone. We operate a shelter and soup kitchen, a clinic that serves people who are uninsured, and a credit union for our community that helps families save and restore credit and makes business loans to support our local community.

We must do more for our low-wealth communities. With your support, we can re-energize our Founders’ vision for the spiritual, social and economic emancipation of all we serve.

I ask for your prayers, your support, and your vote.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Reverend David L. Moore
